Osmium Coffee Bar – 6/26/20

Whereas I had already frequented other Dark Matter locations (the Mothership, Electric Mud, etc), and tried Osmium’s coffee once before, this trip to the location represented a more critical lens to view my pour over. And yet. This morning I had a damn excellent cup.

Strictly speaking of aesthetics, I adored the exterior facade as well as what I saw of the inside. The wall art and decor appeared to be straight out of Salvador Dali’s concept notebook, with a look that could only be described as “psychedelic sci-fi.” I was also immensely pleased to hear that they still served the classic pour over which acts as my litmus test for the quality of a location’s brew offerings. It was later reported to me that the particular cup I had consumed contained highly rare, sought-after beans. The gourmand inside me stands, cheering.

Aside from smelling flavorful and pleasant, the cup was the right temperature, packed with a brightly acidic punch of taste, and the perfect pick-me-up on a darkly rainy morning. I only wish I could have taken a better look at the interior of the shop, perhaps nursed my drink over a good magazine/newspaper/novel. The quality of the savory croissant I ate when arriving at home (I wanted to focus on the coffee for the sake of this review) also matched my drink. Highly recommend Osmium for even the most jaded coffee-trarians such as myself. This place may restore some long-lost idealism.

The rest of the day looks eventful for me by quarantine standards. I anticipate potentially watching a new episode of the Vietnam War docu-series with my dad, and baking a chocolate cake for dessert tonight. Night Train is finished as of last week, and I’m on the final chapter of Ian McEwan’s Saturday. I hope to finish that today so I can start another Amis novel: Money. Right now I’m listening to “Eye In The Sky” by The Alan Parsons Project, which is on my surveillance focused playlist. What an iconic song.
